No wind today! We waited in the slope for 9 hours under the hot sun and the wind God just didn't give us some merci. Anyway, some pilots did have fun doing thermal soaring. Many of them have mastered very good skill to detect thermal and climb to very high attitude. When they dived down and made speedy task as in F3B, the speed in tight turn is very very impressive! Here are some photos taken today.

Eric tried to fly his Extreme, but only managed to get some light wind practice

We have only two rounds of contest today in St. Ferrior which is 100km southwest of Laurac slope. Again, there are two slopes in St. Ferrior, but their slope normal angles are slightly different. The weather was cloudy. Even though the rain didn't come as expected, the wind direction was unfortunately off to normal most of the time making the progress of contest very slow. The wind speed was occasionally below 3m/s FAI level. After a long wait with insufficient wind speed, the organizer called off the contest at 5pm.

We did average, not too bad but not too good either. Our position after round 9 is
Stanley 39
Eric 41
Mak 54

The French teams are dominating in the contest. Their flying styles are well adapted to the local slope condition. There is no way we can fly as fast using our style with our setting up.

Here are some photos and result up to round 8, for detailed result please have a look at the official results at

Indeed, we have no wind today, although the rain didn't come. We waited on the town of St. Ferriol in the earlier morning until 5:30pm for the wind to come. We were disappointed again, so no flying today. We went down to a small town Guilan for sightseeing and had lunch in the cafe restaurant there, quite enjoyable atmosphere.

Hopefully, we will have 10-12m/s wind with little rain tomorrow. Cheers!

We had 4 rounds of contest today. After 3 rounds, rain started getting in and we all hided under our small shelter for 4 hours before we can start round 13 at about 6pm.

Hong Kong team did quite ok in the first three round but we had a diaster in round 13!

I flew pretty ok with a 47.xx in round 10 which ranked third in the group, but in round 11, I experienced with strong crosswind which significantly pushed down my overall ranking. Round 12 I had a short cut. Round 13 was really poor with strong crosswind and also a cut.

Ah Mak was 蝦鹿 again, he forgot to pull out the antenna of his tx and crashed his RaceM into the slope for which he obtained a DNF plus a 100 point panelty! Luckily, his RaceM survived with no damage.

Eric also had a cut in round 13 while trying to do 大海灣飛法 as the French pilots do.

So our overall rankings are
Stanley 38
Eric 43
Mak 60

We flew in slope A in St. Ferriol for round 10,11 and 12

We finally have good weather and wind condition for the contest. A total of 6 rounds was conducted in St. Ferriol. We flew 3 round on Slope B and then 3 round in Slope A.
For the Hong Kong team, we did poorly in slope B because the lift band is very narrow, sidewind is strong. We never have this kind of slope experience in Hong Kong. Anyway, we did quite ok for the last three rounds in Slope A which is a bit favourable in term of the flying style we used.

My position was dropped to 44 in round 15 but regained it to 39 in round 18.
Eric did consistantly ok and very stable for most of the runs. His position is 47 now. Ah Mak was 蝦鹿 again, he flew two rounds so close to the slope and crossed the safety line which costs him two penalties of 100 points each. His position is now 61.
Round 19 result was not known yet as we came back to the hotel earier after finishing earlier. We will have banquet tonight. Tomorrow, we still have a morning for flying and the weather will be very promising.
Cheers!

Pierre話頭三位的飛機係:
1 RONDEL Alliaj HM
2 MARÉCHAL Alliaj HM
3 RINGENBACH Freestyler

今次睇黎到Alliaj HM大賣喇

Viking Race 2010 is finished. We had round 20 this morning and then 20 top pilots continued to complete 4 more rounds for fly off.
I missed the flight in round 20 this morning as I didn't notice there is re-grouping arrangement. Anyway, the organizer allowed me to have a re-fly later but I did it poorly anyway.

The final ranking for HK team members are:
Stanley 40
Eric 47
Mak 60

The Hong Kong team is ranked at 17 places which I consider not too bad for us.

Here are some photos taken today.
