RC Slope Soaring in Hong Kong

Just heard that Viking Race 2010 will be held in St. Ferial / Laura, near Toulouse, France.

The contest will be held in May instead of usually September in previous years, that would be good, bcoz I might be able to attend, but, of course, this is subject to I obtain VR qualification next year! I will work harder then, but I have no confident. You guys are hard to beat!

Hey ... April or May ?! According to the website ... quote below:

"The competition will start on Saturday 4th of April 2009 at 12:00 am (briefing, 1st flight at 12:30 am) and will finish on the Monday 6th of April 2009 with announcement of results around 4:00 pm."

The contest will be held from 7 to 14 of May, 2010. You need to click on the VKR2010 icon on the page to see the details. I guess their page on VR2010 is still very primitive yet.

為了增加飛行次數和比賽回合，大會會安排在同一個斜坡的兩段同時比賽，每段應該有足夠分開距離以免出現可能的飛機相撞。分數計法是用分組計算，即是在同一段斜坡面比賽的為一組，另外一段的飛友為第二組。每位賽員所出賽的次數都是一樣，每場應該有兩個1000分，每位賽員的總分扣除discard就排列名次，最高者為冠軍。我不大清楚兩組賽員會不會互換斜坡段，或兩組分數有交差normalization，但如果風力穩定，兩組比賽的節奏差不多的時候，應該會是一個公平的競賽。

Concerning next year's Viking Race, preparations have been started and we will soon present the new home page that will be dedicated to this event.

Based on the successful last test with international audience, we can confirm that VKR will be organized with a limit of 90 pilots and we will fly in a similar way as during this years FAI/Eurotour contest. The quantity of pilots per country is actually in preparation and the quota will be established taking the following facts into account:
- size of national RC-model federation
- number of active F3F pilots
- participation and results obtained in previous international contests (VKR, Eurotour or others)
- For sure, all new countries have the possibility to send a team of three pilots
- Last VKRs winners in senior and junior category will have a wildcard
We plan to announce the quota within the next two weeks.
For the inscription, that will certainly start in October and will be closed end of February 2010, each country is kindly asked to provide the results of their qualification process for pilots selection that will be done at the end of the inscription phase (so latest in Feb. 2010) and in case of open positions, pilots from the waiting lists will get the chance to participate. In case of no available qualification process, either recent national championship results will be used or 2009 Contest-Eurotour ranking.

I have a few email exchanges with Andreas Fricke, the organizer of VR2010 from France.
He has invited us to send an inscription list for a Hong Kong team. Basically, I responded to him that we will most likely send a team to participate in VR2010 and we will have a final 2009 league race this Sunday to determine the ranking list for selecting a team. I promised to send him the list by the end of this year after we have worked out the ranking and obtained confirmation to go from our qualified pilots. I also mentioned that Taiwan is also interested in sending a team. In the mean time, he mentioned that he welcomes any sponsorship from this region and he specifically sent us the condition and the promotion activities they will do if sponsorship is secured.
